Punjab has launched its first-ever portable X-ray service for wild animals, introducing a new technology that will improve veterinary care and animal welfare across the province.
The initiative has been started by the Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department as part of its efforts to provide better medical treatment for animals living in zoos and wildlife facilities.
The portable X-ray machine allows veterinarians to examine animals quickly without moving them to a hospital or another medical center.
This helps reduce stress and discomfort for injured or sick animals while allowing doctors to diagnose broken bones, internal injuries, and other health conditions more efficiently.
The first animals to receive examinations using the new portable X-ray system were a fallow deer and a python at Lahore Zoo. The successful use of the equipment demonstrated how the technology can support faster diagnosis and improve treatment for a wide range of wild animals.
Officials said the new system will help veterinarians make quicker medical decisions, leading to better recovery and improved healthcare for animals. They explained that reducing the need to transport wildlife also lowers the risk of additional injuries and creates a safer experience for both animals and veterinary staff.
The Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department believes this initiative is an important step toward modernizing wildlife healthcare in the province.
