The Interior Ministry has proposed changes to the Tinted Glass Permit Policy 2025. Under the new plan, members of parliament would get permits for tinted car windows completely free of cost. Ordinary citizens would still have to pay Rs 15,000 for the same permit.
Members of Parliament had long requested this immunity. The ministry has now included their request in the revised policy. Currently, regular people must pay the fee and submit documents to get a tinted glass permit. Official and security vehicles have often been treated differently under existing rules.
The proposal has caused discussion among the public. Many people are asking why elected representatives should not pay a fee that common citizens must pay. This comes at a time when the cost of public services and daily necessities continues to rise for ordinary Pakistanis.
Tinted glass rules in Pakistan have been under review for some time. Authorities have been working on a clear policy to regulate tinted windows on vehicles, mainly for medical or security reasons. The draft policy aims to create a proper system for issuing permits and collecting fees.
If approved, the change would create two different standards, one for lawmakers and one for the general public.
