Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the government was establishing a “gem, mineral, and jewelry city” to enhance exports and generate money, citing Pakistan’s position as the seventh largest producer of precious jewels.
The prime minister was hosting a meeting of the task group on gems, jewelry, and minerals in this city. Makhdoom Khusru Bakhtiar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Dr Shabaz Gill, Chairman Gems and Jewelry Task Force Engineer Gul Asghar Khan, Atif Khan, members of the task force, and appropriate authorities attended the meeting.
According to the meeting, Pakistan has the capacity to export rare gems worth $5 billion yearly, which would have a good impact on the country’s economy while also creating a large number of job possibilities.
The prime minister was informed about the reorganization of the gems, jewelry, and minerals sector, as well as the proposed mineral city recommendations.
Pakistan has 99 distinct precious gem reserves, making it the eighth largest country in the world in terms of output, according to the report. it is estimated that 200 tonnes of gold were consumed in Pakistan, and this sector might be transformed into one of the most important industries through appropriate regulation and better arrangements.
Furthermore, a gems and jewelry city would be built to bring all resources together in one location, ensure issue resolution through a single point of contact, and provide facilities to investors.
