India climbed back to the No. 1 spot in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings after a strong performance against Zimbabwe in July 2026. Just weeks earlier, England had taken the top position by whitewashing India 4-0 in a home series. The Men in Blue responded well on their tour of Zimbabwe, winning the three-match series 3-0 and reclaiming the summit.
In the second T20I in Harare on July 25, India posted 219 for 5, powered by Ishan Kishan’s 81 off 44 balls and Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 60. Zimbabwe were bowled out for 129, giving India a 90-run win and a good 2-0 lead. The final match also went India’s way by 35 runs, completing a clean sweep.
Fans on social media took the victory with humour. Some jokingly called the series “ZimIndia,” teasing that India regained the top ranking by beating a lower-ranked side rather than stronger opposition. Memes and light-hearted banter spread quickly online.
Both India and England have 268 rating points, however according to the ICC’s calculations, India has an advantage. After earlier defeats to England and Ireland, the victories also marked captain Shreyas Iyer’s maiden series triumph.
