The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert for a new spell of monsoon rains across most of the country from July 29 to August 5.
Monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal will affect upper and central areas starting July 29. A westerly wave is also expected to strengthen from August 1, bringing more rain and thunderstorms.
Cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, and many parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to see rain with wind and thunder. Some places may get heavy to very heavy showers. Karachi is expected to receive rain and thunderstorms from July 31 to August 2. Rain is also forecast in Kashmir and other regions.
Authorities have warned of possible urban flooding in low-lying city areas, flash floods in streams and nullahs, landslides in hilly regions, strong winds, and lightning damage. Tourists, travellers, and farmers should stay careful and plan. Rescue and disaster departments have been told to remain on high alert.
People are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, stay away from rivers and streams, and follow official updates.
