Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Abbas has created history by recording the best bowling average among Pakistani pace bowlers with at least 100 Test wickets.
In the first Test against the West Indies at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad, Abbas took important wickets in both innings. This took his career total to 116 wickets in just 30 matches. His average improved to 22.69, slightly better than the long-standing record of 22.81 held by former captain Imran Khan (who took 362 wickets in 88 Tests). Waqar Younis follows with an average of 23.56 from 373 wickets.
Abbas made his Test debut against the West Indies in 2017. After more than three years away from the Test team, he returned strongly in late 2024 and has continued to deliver consistent performances. He is also the sixth Pakistani fast bowler to take 100 Test wickets away from home, joining Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Imran Khan, Mohammad Amir and Umar Gul. Among this group, Abbas holds the best average.
Known for his accuracy, seam movement and tight control, Abbas has once again shown why he remains one of Pakistan’s most reliable red-ball bowlers.
