Brazilian football star Neymar has confirmed his retirement from international football. The 34-year-old leaves the national team as Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer with 80 goals.
His decision comes after Brazil’s exit in the Round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup. Neymar announced a match for his club Santos. He said his time with the national team has passed and that he made history while wearing the yellow jersey.
“I experienced a lot there, gave my blood and my life, and always fought for the yellow jersey. But I don’t think I want it anymore,” Neymar told reporters.
The forward played in four World Cups and scored 80 goals in 130 appearances for Brazil. Although his father and agent had encouraged him to continue, Neymar confirmed that his international journey is over.
