SpaceX’s Starship has reached orbit for the first time during its 14th test flight, marking a significant milestone in the development of the company’s next-generation spacecraft.
The massive vehicle successfully carried out an engine firing to enter orbit and deployed 26 next-generation Starlink V3 satellites during the mission.
The achievement demonstrates Starship’s growing capabilities and brings SpaceX closer to its goal of developing a reusable system capable of carrying large payloads into space.
However, the test did not go entirely according to plan. An unexpected engine shutdown forced SpaceX to shorten the mission, reducing its planned duration from around 10 hours to approximately three hours.
Despite the technical issue, the spacecraft completed several key objectives before beginning its return.
Starship later carried out a controlled descent toward the Pacific Ocean, ending the flight with a fiery splashdown.
While the mission faced setbacks, successfully reaching orbit and deploying satellites represented an important step in SpaceX’s development programme.
The company ultimately aims to use Starship for frequent commercial launches, support the expansion of its Starlink satellite network and play a major role in future NASA lunar missions.
The latest test provides another important demonstration as SpaceX works toward making Starship a more capable and regularly reusable launch system.
