The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) collected more than Rs. 476 billion in taxes through electricity bills during the last fiscal year. Official documents presented to the Senate Standing Committee on Finance confirmed the figures.
The total includes Rs. 351 billion in sales tax and Rs. 124 billion in income tax. This amount is lower than previous years. Collections stood at Rs. 562 billion in FY2024–25, Rs. 515 billion in FY2023–24, and Rs. 313 billion in FY2022–23.
Of the income tax, industrial consumers paid Rs. 66 billion. Commercial consumers contributed Rs. 52 billion. The remaining amount came from domestic consumers under different tax rules.
On the sales tax side, Rs. 269 billion was collected at the standard rate. Additional amounts came from higher rates and collections from retailers.
These taxes are added directly to electricity bills paid by homes, shops, and factories across the country. The system helps the government collect revenue efficiently through power distribution companies.
