Reports of fake Rs5,000 currency notes have appeared in different parts of Pakistan, especially in Karachi markets. Traders and citizens are worried because these high-value notes are hard to check quickly during busy transactions.
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) says people must carefully examine every Rs5,000 note before accepting it. Key security features help spot genuine currency:
- Hold the note to light. You should see a clear watermark of Quaid-e-Azam and the number “5000” below it.
- A shiny security thread runs vertically and shows “5000”.
- The national flag on the front changes colour when tilted (colour-changing ink).
- Raised printing on Quaid-e-Azam’s coat and other parts feels rough to the touch.
- Parts of the number “5000” join perfectly when held against light.
If a note looks suspicious, do not pass it on. Take it to the nearest bank or report it to the authorities for checking. Do not trust rumours about serial numbers alone; the SBP has said those claims are false.
