Pakistan and Iran have agreed to further strengthen their cooperation in the energy sector by moving ahead with plans for a second cross-border electricity transmission line. The two countries also discussed increasing the existing 100 MW electricity supply arrangement to help meet Pakistan’s growing energy needs.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Energy Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari and Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Reza Amiri Moghaddam, in Islamabad. The meeting focused on ways to improve energy cooperation and strengthen economic relations between the neighboring countries.
During the meeting, both sides discussed plans to improve the reliability of electricity supply to Gwadar. The officials also explored opportunities for greater technical cooperation in the energy sector, which could help both countries share expertise and improve their systems.
The discussions also covered ways to increase bilateral trade and create stronger economic links between Pakistan and Iran. Both countries emphasized the importance of continued communication and cooperation to achieve shared economic goals.
