Pakistan has announced stricter enforcement of axle-load limits on motorways and national highways as part of a broader effort to protect road infrastructure and improve public safety.
Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has made it clear that overloaded vehicles will not be allowed to enter motorways, directing transporters to strictly comply with the legally prescribed weight limits.
The government’s decision comes amid growing concerns over the impact of overloaded vehicles on roads, bridges and overall traffic safety.
Authorities believe stronger enforcement of axle-load regulations will help reduce damage to the national road network while also lowering the risks associated with heavy and improperly loaded vehicles.
During discussions with representatives of the transport sector, concerns raised by Mazda operators and owners of 10-wheel trucks were also brought to the government’s attention.
Minister Abdul Aleem Khan assured the transport community that their concerns would be reviewed and addressed through dialogue rather than confrontation.
The minister invited representatives of transporters to Islamabad for further consultations, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the government and the transport industry.
He called for practical solutions that can ensure compliance with safety regulations while also taking into account the genuine operational challenges faced by transporters.
Abdul Aleem Khan also issued strict directions to the leadership of the Motorway Police to eliminate corruption from the enforcement system within one month. He warned that officials found involved in bribery or facilitating violations would face strict action.
The government has emphasized that enforcement of traffic and axle-load regulations must remain transparent, fair and free from corrupt practices.
