The Kia Picanto has officially been discontinued in Pakistan after spending nearly six years in the local automobile market. Lucky Motor Corporation has removed the 1,000cc hatchback from Kia’s current lineup in Pakistan, while new bookings for the model have reportedly been closed at dealerships.
The Kia Picanto was introduced in Pakistan in September 2019 and was positioned as a small and practical car for city driving. However, the model faced strong competition from popular vehicles such as the Suzuki Cultus and Suzuki Wagon R.
The Picanto struggled to gain a strong position in the market because of several challenges. Lower sales, concerns about fuel economy, expensive spare parts and weaker resale value made it less attractive to many Pakistani buyers. Rising car prices also added to the difficulties, especially for customers looking for affordable vehicles.
Over the years, buyers have become increasingly careful about running costs, fuel consumption, maintenance expenses and resale value when choosing a car. These factors played an important role in the Picanto’s performance in the competitive local market.
Although the Picanto is no longer part of Kia’s new vehicle lineup in Pakistan, existing owners will not be left without support. Customers who already own the hatchback are expected to continue receiving after-sales services and spare parts through Kia’s authorized dealer network.
The discontinuation marks the end of the Picanto’s journey in Pakistan’s new-car market after almost six years. It also reflects the challenges faced by smaller hatchbacks in a market where buyers often place strong importance on affordability, fuel efficiency, maintenance costs and resale value.
For existing Picanto owners, continued dealer support will remain important for regular maintenance and repairs.
