ChatGPT’s official Instagram account has caught attention for an unusual detail. The account, @chatgpt, currently follows only seven accounts, and among them is football superstar Lionel Messi. Instagram’s current listing shows that ChatGPT has more than 7 million followers and 721 posts.
Messi’s inclusion is especially notable because OpenAI recently partnered with the Argentine footballer for a global ChatGPT campaign linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The campaign features Messi using ChatGPT Images to change his hair into Argentina’s blue and white colors. OpenAI also made the prompt available for fans to create similar images.
The partnership marked OpenAI’s first global collaboration with a major public figure in football. Messi has also become one of Instagram’s most-followed personalities, with more than 500 million followers.
Interestingly, Messi said earlier in 2026 that he did not personally use ChatGPT or other AI tools. He explained that he had not started using the technology.
While the account’s following list doesn’t prove that ChatGPT is a “Messi fan,” the unusual connection has certainly attracted attention online.
