A police officer in Lahore has been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and crashing into a woman’s car on Jail Road.
The officer, identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Ghafir Naveed, was posted to the Judicial Wing. According to police, a case was registered against him over allegations of overspeeding, negligent driving and driving under the influence.
The incident took place on Jail Road, one of Lahore’s busy roads, where the officer allegedly lost control of his vehicle and collided with a car driven by a woman. The collision reportedly damaged the woman’s vehicle.
Police took action following the incident and registered a case against the officer. The allegations have raised concerns about road safety and the responsibility of law enforcement personnel to follow traffic rules.
According to police, Ghafir Naveed paid Rs. 500,000 to cover the repair costs and damage to the woman’s car. The payment was reportedly made to compensate for the loss caused by the collision.
However, compensation for property damage does not remove the importance of investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and determining whether any laws were violated.
Overspeeding and driving under the influence can put drivers, passengers and pedestrians at serious risk, particularly on busy urban roads. Such incidents also highlight the need for accountability when public officials are accused of breaking the law.
