Trump Shares Image of the Strait of Hormuz, Labels It “New U.S. Territory”

Trump has sparked fresh international controversy after sharing a map on Truth Social that appeared to label the strategically important Strait of Hormuz as “new U.S. territory.” The post has drawn attention amid escalating tensions surrounding the vital maritime passage and ongoing disagreements between Washington and Tehran.

The development came after Iran indicated that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed following the expiration of a 60-day negotiating period with the United States without a peace agreement. The waterway is one of the world’s most important shipping routes, making any disruption there a major concern for global energy markets and international trade.

Trump has repeatedly made claims in recent days suggesting that the United States has “total control” over the strategic waterway. His latest post further intensified speculation over Washington’s position and raised concerns about the potential consequences of increased tensions in the region.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi rejected the map as a “delusion,” warning that what he described as an inaccurate depiction would eventually be corrected. Trump later claimed that the Strait was open and that mines in the area had either been removed or detonated.

The conflicting statements have added to uncertainty surrounding the status of the Strait and the broader standoff between the United States and Iran, with international attention focused on the potential impact on shipping, energy supplies and regional stability.
