Police officers and personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could see a major increase in their basic salaries if new proposal receives final approval from the federal government.
The proposal is linked to a Hard Area Allowance for KP police personnel performing duties related to counterterrorism. According to police officials, the KP Home Department has already sent recommendations to the federal government regarding the allowance.
Authorities will now identify the areas that could be given hard area status and send details of the relevant districts to the federal government. The proposal is to include all KP districts except Swabi and the Hazara Division.
KP police officials said the province first approached the federal government for hard area status in March 2025. The demand has been linked to the risks faced by police personnel while fighting terrorism and differences in salaries compared with police forces in other provinces.
If approved, the proposed allowance could result in a 250% increase in the basic salaries of eligible police officers and personnel. A formal notification will be issued after the federal government gives its final approval.
The proposed increase has not been implemented yet. Police personnel will have to wait for the federal government’s final decision and the subsequent notification.
