Punjab’s courts have resumed proceedings following a 30-day summer recess, with Rawalpindi’s family courts witnessing an unusually high number of new cases on the first day.
A total of 214 cases were filed before 27 family courts in the city, covering a range of family and marital disputes. The cases included divorce, khula, dowry and dower-related matters.
The first day also saw 18 men approach the courts seeking orders for their wives to return home following marital disagreements.
Court records showed that some of the disputes involved marriages that had started after couples met through social media platforms, including TikTok. Several of these marriages reportedly ended within only three to six months.
Some Christian women also approached the courts seeking divorce, adding to the variety of family matters brought before the judiciary after the summer break.
The sharp rise in cases on the reopening day highlights the backlog and continued demand for family dispute resolution. Courts will now proceed with hearings and legal processes as the judicial schedule returns to normal.
Meanwhile, civil, magistrate and special courts across Punjab also resumed regular proceedings after the recess.
In Rawalpindi, these courts handled various matters, including the production of accused individuals from Adiala Jail before the relevant courts.
The reopening marks the return of routine judicial activity after the month-long break, while the large number of family cases has placed considerable attention on the workload facing Rawalpindi’s family courts.
The cases also reflect the range of personal and marital disputes that continue to come before courts for legal resolution.
