Punjab’s Class 9 examination results have raised serious concerns over academic performance in government schools, with particularly low pass rates reported across several major education boards.
In Lahore, only 39% of government school students passed, while 61% were unable to clear the examination.
A notable gender gap was also observed in Lahore’s government schools. Around 72% of boys failed the Class 9 examinations, compared with 52% of girls, highlighting significant differences in academic outcomes and raising questions about the factors affecting student performance.
The situation extends beyond Lahore, with several Punjab boards reporting pass rates below 53%. Bahawalpur recorded 38.46%, Sargodha 42.61%, Gujranwala 46.51%, Dera Ghazi Khan 48.18%, Faisalabad 51.21%, and Multan 52.11%.
The results have renewed discussions around teaching quality, school resources, student support, and the overall standard of public education in Punjab.
