The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has clarified the scope of the special arrangement allowing Palestinian medical and dental students to complete their undergraduate clinical training in Pakistan.
According to the council, the permission was granted as a one-time humanitarian measure and is limited strictly to completing the mandatory clinical requirements of their undergraduate education.
PMDC emphasized that the arrangement does not provide permission for house jobs, postgraduate training, internships, registration, or medical and dental practice in Pakistan.
Medical and dental institutions have also been advised not to make new commitments or give assurances to students beyond the scope officially approved by the council. PMDC warned that institutions violating these directions could face regulatory action.
The council explained that the humanitarian arrangement was introduced in 2024 to support students from Gaza who were unable to complete their required clinical training.
Their degrees will continue to be awarded by their respective parent institutions in Gaza. Once their undergraduate clinical requirements are completed, the students are expected to return to Palestine.
The clarification comes as PMDC seeks to ensure that the humanitarian support provided to Palestinian students remains within the specific regulatory framework approved by the council.
