Punjab is preparing to expand its electric bus service to tehsil-level areas from January 2027 after approval from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The provincial government has set a target of putting 3,000 electric buses on roads across Punjab by June 2027. Major allocations are planned for districts including Multan, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Gujrat and Rawalpindi.
At present, 612 electric buses are operating in different districts and serving hundreds of thousands of passengers every day. Another 192 buses are expected to join the network soon.
Further bus allocations are also planned for other districts as the provincial government works to expand electric public transport beyond major urban centres.
The expansion is expected to give more residents access to modern and affordable transportation while supporting the shift towards cleaner public transit. Alongside the electric bus programme, work on restoring 125 Lahore Metro Bus stations is also close to completion.
With additional buses planned over the coming months, Punjab is moving towards a much larger electric transport network covering cities and tehsils across the province.
The planned expansion is expected to improve connectivity for commuters and provide more convenient public transport options in different parts of Punjab.
