Pakistan cricketers Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan have reportedly been summoned by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) as part of an inquiry linked to the Pakistan team’s recent England tour.
The development follows the Pakistan Cricket Board’s internal disciplinary investigation into reports about player conduct and discipline. The inquiry began after Pakistan suffered a heavy 194 run defeat to England in the second Test at Lord’s. The PCB subsequently sent seven players, including Rizwan and Imam, back to Pakistan.
Reports say data was taken from the mobile phones of Imam and Rizwan after the Lord’s Test. Investigators are reportedly checking the information as part of the wider inquiry. However, the PCB has not publicly confirmed the specific allegations involving the players or all details concerning their phone data.
The NCCIA, Pakistan’s federal agency responsible for investigating cybercrime, has now reportedly called the two players for questioning over information obtained from their phones.
The controversy adds to the major changes within Pakistan cricket, which also included replacing head coach Sarfraz Ahmed and making several squad changes during the England series.
