Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman and National Paigham-e-Aman Committee Coordinator Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi has received the 2026 Hubert Walter Award for Reconciliation and Interfaith Cooperation in London.
The award was presented by Archbishop of Canterbury Sarah Mullally during a ceremony at the historic Lambeth Palace.
Ashrafi was recognised for his longstanding efforts to promote peace, reconciliation and cooperation between different faith communities. His work has also focused on moderation, intra-faith harmony, minority rights and peaceful coexistence.
Over the years, he has spoken publicly against extremism, terrorism and sectarian violence while advocating dialogue and greater understanding among religious communities.
The honour adds to Ashrafi’s international recognition for his work on religious harmony and peacebuilding. The award ceremony brought attention to efforts aimed at strengthening relations between different faith groups and encouraging peaceful coexistence.
Ashrafi’s recognition also highlights the role of religious leaders in promoting dialogue and addressing issues linked to extremism and sectarian tensions.
The Hubert Walter Award is being presented to him in recognition of his continued engagement in reconciliation and interfaith cooperation, marking another international acknowledgement of his work in the field.
