Pakistan has launched a Rs. 10 billion project to modernise air traffic management and communication systems at major airports in Karachi and Lahore.
Under the Pakistan Airports Authority initiative, Jinnah International Airport in Karachi and Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore will receive upgraded air traffic management and voice communication systems.
The project will also include modernisation of the air traffic control centres at both airports, with the aim of strengthening operational capabilities and improving communication between air traffic controllers and aircraft.
The technical bid opening process for the project has been completed. Financial bids from companies that qualify at the technical stage will be opened during the next phase of the procurement process.
The planned upgrades are expected to improve the efficiency and reliability of air traffic management at two of Pakistan’s busiest airports.
The investment comes as Pakistan continues efforts to modernise its aviation infrastructure and adopt more advanced systems for managing increasing air traffic requirements.
The upgraded communication and control systems are also expected to support safer and more effective coordination of aircraft movements at Karachi and Lahore airports.
Once completed, the project will represent a major technology upgrade for Pakistan’s air traffic infrastructure and strengthen the country’s aviation management capabilities.
