The government is reportedly considering a monthly petrol relief package of around Rs2,000 for motorcycle owners as fuel prices remain high across Pakistan.
Under the proposed scheme, the amount could provide motorcycle users with approximately five litres of petrol at current prices. The initiative is being discussed as a temporary measure to ease the financial pressure on millions of people who depend on motorcycles for their daily travel.
The proposal could initially be introduced for a period of three months. However, the final relief amount, eligibility requirements and mechanism for distributing the support have yet to be confirmed.
The government has so far not opted to reduce the petroleum levy, increasing attention on alternative measures that could provide direct assistance to consumers facing higher fuel costs.
Motorcycles are widely used for commuting, particularly by workers and other daily travellers, making fuel prices a significant part of their monthly expenses.
If approved, the proposed relief could offer some short-term support to motorcycle owners. However, questions remain over whether around five litres of free petrol each month would provide sufficient relief amid elevated fuel prices and rising household expenses.
The government is expected to finalise the details of the proposal before deciding whether to implement the scheme.
