Punjab is set to expand its electric public transport network with 1,500 new e-buses planned for deployment across 91 tehsils from January 2027.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the establishment of dedicated depots for each tehsil as part of the expansion plan. The provincial government is targeting a total fleet of 3,000 electric buses by June 2027.
Currently, 612 electric buses are operating across different districts of Punjab, providing public transport services to millions of commuters. Another 192 buses are expected to become operational soon.
The planned expansion will extend electric bus services to more cities and districts, giving commuters in additional areas access to modern public transport.
The provincial government is also working on other mass transit projects, with initiatives in Faisalabad and Gujranwala progressing alongside the electric bus programme.
The expansion is expected to strengthen Punjab’s public transport network while increasing the availability of cleaner and more accessible travel options.
With dedicated depots planned at the tehsil level, the government aims to build the infrastructure needed to support the growing electric bus fleet and expand services beyond major urban centres.
The latest plan marks another step in Punjab’s wider efforts to develop electric public transport and improve connectivity across the province.
