Peshawar Consumer Court has reportedly fined fashion retailer Khaadi Rs. 50,000 in a case involving a Rs. 30 charge for a shopping bag.
According to the reported court order, Khaadi was directed to refund the Rs. 30 paid by the customer, provide Rs. 25,000 as compensation, and deposit an additional Rs. 25,000 as a government penalty.
The court also raised questions about charging customers for branded shopping bags that carry the retailer’s name and can simultaneously function as promotional material.
The case has drawn attention to the wider issue of shopping-bag charges and consumer rights in Pakistan.
