Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Daanish University is being developed to give talented and deserving Pakistani students access to modern, world-class education based strictly on merit.
Speaking at a meeting on Thursday, the prime minister said the university will focus on technology, research, innovation and emerging fields, with the aim of creating a centre of excellence for students seeking opportunities in advanced areas of education.
As part of the initiative, a talent hunt programme has also been launched for second-year FSc and A-Level students who are interested in pursuing admission to the university’s Virtual School.
Under the programme, selected students will receive five months of free classes to help them prepare academically and compete for opportunities at the institution.
Officials told the meeting that 185 applications have so far been received for faculty positions, while construction of the university’s main building is expected to be completed next year.
The initiative is intended to expand access to quality education for talented students while creating opportunities in technology, research and other emerging disciplines.
