A notification circulating on social media claiming that Pakistan has introduced a four-day working week for government offices is fake, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MOIB) has clarified.
The ministry’s Fact Checker issued the clarification on September 17, after the document spread online and was presented as an official order from the Cabinet Division. According to the fake notification, government offices would operate from Monday to Thursday, while Friday, Saturday and Sunday would be holidays.
The document was dated September 16 and referred to another alleged notification issued a day earlier. However, the MOIB Fact Checker confirmed that no such government order had been issued. It advised people not to trust or share the document and asked citizens to check official government channels before accepting similar announcements.
The confusion comes as discussions about reducing working days have recently been reported in Pakistan amid higher fuel and operating costs. However, any such proposal should not be treated as an approved policy unless the government formally issues a notification.
