Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves have reached a record $21.4 billion, giving the country its highest level of reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
According to SBP data, its reserves stood at $21.389 billion as of September 11, 2026, after rising by $3.06 billion in one week. The increase mainly came after Pakistan received proceeds from its latest Eurobond issuance.
The government raised $3 billion through two Eurobonds, marking Pakistan’s return to international capital markets. The bonds included a $1.75 billion 5.5-year issue and a $1.25 billion 10-year issue.
Including reserves held by commercial banks, Pakistan’s total liquid foreign exchange reserves reached $26.79 billion. Commercial banks held around $5.4 billion of this amount.
The higher reserves strengthen Pakistan’s ability to meet payments for imports, debt and other international obligations. Recent improvements in worker remittances and the external account have also supported the country’s foreign exchange position.
