Pakistan’s rice exports have reached a record level, generating around Rs. 108 billion ($192 million) in export earnings during the first two months of the financial year.
The increase reflects growing international demand for Pakistani rice, particularly the country’s Basmati variety.
Rice exports rose by 22% in August, reaching approximately 308,000 tonnes. Basmati rice exports recorded an even stronger increase, climbing 58% to around 78,000 tonnes during the month.
Overall, Pakistan exported approximately 655,000 tonnes of rice during the first two months of the financial year, representing a 20% increase compared with the same period last year.
Basmati rice also delivered a significant boost to export earnings. Revenue from Basmati exports increased by 70% to $88 million, indicating stronger demand for the premium variety in international markets.
The latest figures highlight the growing contribution of Pakistan’s rice sector to the country’s export earnings and foreign exchange inflows.
