Prince Rahim Aga Khan V has praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s efforts to promote regional peace and stability during a meeting in New York on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting took place on September 25, 2026, as the Pakistani prime minister continued his engagements at the UN. Prince Rahim appreciated Shehbaz’s efforts at a time when conflict continues to affect the wider region.
During the meeting, Shehbaz welcomed Prince Rahim and highlighted the long-standing relationship between Pakistan and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). He also recognised the contribution of the Ismaili community to Pakistan’s social and economic development.
The two sides discussed expanding cooperation in healthcare, education, climate resilience and sustainable economic development. They also discussed the work of AKDN institutions in areas including financial inclusion, tourism, cultural preservation and community-based economic support.
Prince Rahim reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening cooperation between Pakistan and AKDN. He also expressed interest in expanding human development programmes in the country.
The meeting came as PM Shehbaz has been highlighting dialogue and diplomacy as important tools for resolving regional conflicts during his UN engagements.
