Balochistan’s first mass transit train, the Jinnah Peoples Train, is ready to start service for the public, bringing a new local travel option to Quetta and nearby areas.
The project includes the upgrade of a 32 kilometre railway track between Sariab and Kuchlak. The work was completed in 120 days at a cost of Rs. 3 billion.
The train will run through seven stations: Kuchlak, Baleli, Sheikh Manda, GOR, Quetta, Lor Kariz and Sariab. It is expected to help students, workers, businesspeople and other residents with daily travel.
Pakistan Railways and the Balochistan government worked together on the project. The train coaches were also prepared at the Pakistan Railways Carriage Factory in a period of four months.
Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said the service would offer safe, comfortable and affordable transport to people in Quetta and surrounding areas.
The government has said the train will reduce travel time and costs for passengers. Further expansion of the service to areas including Mastung and Pishin has also been planned.
