Protestors removed metal barriers fitted with sharp spikes from the Attock Bridge as preparations continued for the planned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest in Islamabad.
Videos shared online showed people pulling away iron sheets carrying spikes that had been placed across the road. The barriers were part of security measures introduced to restrict movement between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab ahead of the protest.
The Attock Bridge has become a key point in the security arrangements because it connects Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Punjab. Authorities had earlier closed the GT Road at Attock Khurd and placed containers and other barriers at important crossings to prevent protesters from travelling towards Islamabad.
The PTI had originally planned its long march for September 27, but the party later postponed it to October 4. Despite the change, security preparations remain in place across Attock and other parts of the Rawalpindi Division. More than 43,000 police personnel have been planned for deployment in the division, including around 30,000 in Attock.
