Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has renewed his support for the Palestinian cause, saying Türkiye will continue defending the rights of Palestinians and Jerusalem.
Erdogan made the remarks during his address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 22, 2026. He criticised the international community over the situation in Gaza and called for greater pressure to end the conflict. He also urged countries that do not recognise Palestine as a state to reconsider their position.
Erdogan has repeatedly spoken in support of Palestinians and criticised Israel’s military actions in Gaza. In a previous statement, he said Türkiye would defend Palestinian and Jerusalem’s rights “until our last breath.”
During his latest UN speech, Erdogan also raised the absence of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas from the General Assembly, saying Palestinians should be able to have their voices heard internationally.
Türkiye has remained one of the most vocal international critics of Israel’s actions in Gaza and continues to call for international efforts to address the humanitarian crisis.
