Pakistan Navy’s newly inducted submarine, PNS/M HANGOR, has successfully conducted its first live weapon firing in the North Arabian Sea, marking an important step in the submarine’s operational deployment.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the submarine launched an anti-ship cruise missile and successfully hit a designated long-range target. The Navy did not publicly identify the missile or disclose its range.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf witnessed the firing at sea. He praised the submarine’s combat capabilities and highlighted the importance of strengthening Pakistan’s underwater warfare capacity.
PNS/M HANGOR is the first vessel of Pakistan’s new Hangor-class submarine fleet. It was commissioned in China on April 30, 2026, and arrived at Karachi in June. Pakistan is acquiring eight submarines under its defence cooperation programme with China, with four being built in China and four planned for construction at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works.
The Navy described the successful firing as a demonstration of HANGOR’s operational readiness and its ability to use its weapons against maritime targets.
