Massage chairs, foot massagers, massage guns and other body massage equipment are likely to become more expensive in Pakistan after the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) increased their customs valuation at the import stage. The revised values will be used when calculating duties and taxes on imported products.
The decision follows a fresh valuation exercise by the Directorate General of Customs Valuation in Karachi under Section 25A of the Customs Act, 1969. Officials reviewed import records, declared prices, product specifications, market prices and information submitted by importers before setting the new values.
The products have been divided into six groups, including Basic or 2D massage chairs, 3D chairs, 4D chairs, foot massagers, massage guns and other body massaging equipment. The valuation will depend on the model, technology, specifications and features rather than simply the brand name.
FBR also found that these products are mainly sold through brand outlets, showrooms and official websites in Pakistan. Since customs duties and taxes are calculated using the assessed import value, the higher valuation is expected to increase costs for importers and could eventually affect retail prices.
