Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said Islamabad should be handed over to the people of Tharparkar if the federal capital has failed to deliver on development.
Bilawal made the remarks on Monday, October 5, while speaking at the inauguration of Phase III of the Thar Coal Block II project in Tharparkar, Sindh. He questioned the argument that new provinces are needed because the existing system has failed.
He said the development achieved in Thar should serve as an example for other parts of Pakistan, including Islamabad. Bilawal highlighted progress in education, healthcare and energy in the desert region. He also pointed to the achievements of Thar’s students in recent medical entrance examinations.
Bilawal said Thar coal, once considered commercially unviable by some experts, is now contributing to Pakistan’s energy supply and reducing dependence on imported fuel. He claimed the resource had helped save around $1.6 billion in foreign exchange.
The PPP chairman also criticised what he described as attempts to promote division and hatred in Sindh. He said Thar’s progress showed that development could be achieved through provincial governments and partnerships with the private sector.
