Punjab Govt Alerts Hospitals Over COVID-19 and Seasonal Flu

The Punjab government has issued a health alert to hospitals across the province over COVID-19 and seasonal flu, warning that patient numbers could increase in outpatient departments (OPDs) and other hospital wards.

The alert was issued on Wednesday, October 7, to chief executive officers and medical superintendents of hospitals. Officials were directed to remain prepared and ensure that available medical facilities are provided to patients if the number of cases rises.

The provincial government also highlighted the higher risk seasonal flu may pose to pregnant women and people with chronic health conditions. It advised citizens to take basic precautions, including wearing masks, washing hands regularly and avoiding crowded places.

Flu vaccination was described as an important preventive measure, with pregnant women and older people advised to receive the vaccine on priority.

The alert comes as hospitals in Lahore have reportedly seen more patients with fever, persistent cough, breathing problems, body aches and other flu-like symptoms. However, the exact number of confirmed COVID-19 cases remains unclear because testing is reportedly not being carried out at some government teaching hospitals.

Authorities have urged people with respiratory symptoms to maintain hygiene and seek medical attention if their condition becomes serious.
