GTA V Runs in Chrome Without Cloud Gaming or Installation

Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) has reportedly been made playable in Google Chrome without installing the full game or using a cloud gaming service.

An unofficial project recently showed the popular Rockstar Games title running directly in a web browser. The project appeared online on October 6, 2026, with videos showing GTA V running on a Mac powered by Apple’s M3 Pro chip.

Players reportedly needed to load around 700 MB of game data before they could start playing. Additional data was loaded as the game continued. The project used WebAssembly, a technology that allows programs to run inside web browsers.

The project was different from cloud gaming. In cloud gaming, the game runs on a remote server and is streamed to the player’s device. In this case, the game was reportedly running on the user’s own computer through Chrome.

However, the browser version was available only for a short time. The website was taken down a few hours after it appeared online. Reports suggested that copyright issues may have been behind the removal, although Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive did not officially confirm the reason.
