Two Pakistani astronauts are currently training at the China Astronaut Research and Training Center — and they could soon be heading to China’s space station
Yang Liwei, China’s first astronaut to travel into space and deputy chief designer of the country’s manned space program, said Monday that the two Pakistani astronauts will take part in future missions alongside Chinese astronauts.
Under the current plan, one Pakistani astronaut will join a short-duration mission as a payload specialist.
The two Pakistani candidates were selected in April as the first foreign astronauts for China’s space mission training. By May, they had entered the astronaut training center and begun training alongside Chinese astronauts.
