Islamabad Police Bans Officers of All Ranks From Making Videos or Taking Photos in Uniform

Islamabad Police has introduced a new social media policy that stops officers and other personnel from making videos or taking photographs while wearing their police uniforms.

The policy applies to personnel across all ranks and took effect immediately after approval by the Inspector General of Islamabad Police. Officials are also not allowed to use the police uniform for personal publicity, popularity or glamour. Videos made in uniform inside official vehicles, police offices or private places can lead to departmental action.

The new rules also place limits on what police personnel can say or share online. Officers cannot give statements to the media, speak at public forums or write articles without permission. They are also barred from sharing personal political or religious views through social media.

Police personnel cannot upload official or confidential documents, photographs or other departmental material on their personal accounts. Even posts about positive police activities will need approval from the DIG Headquarters.

According to the policy, information about Islamabad Police activities will be shared through the Public Relations Branch of the Central Police Office. Unit heads will also be responsible for monitoring the social media activity of their staff.

The new restrictions follow earlier action against officers for inappropriate social media content. In July 2025, two Islamabad Police constables were suspended after allegedly posting videos while wearing uniforms.
