PM Shehbaz Sharif Again Nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has once again backed United States President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his role in reducing tensions between Pakistan and India. In a statement shared on October 9, 2026, the prime minister said Trump’s diplomatic efforts helped prevent further conflict between the two neighbouring countries.

Shehbaz said Pakistan had nominated Trump in recognition of his contribution to securing a ceasefire during the military confrontation in May 2025. He expressed hope that Trump’s efforts to promote peace and prevent conflict in South Asia would receive recognition this time.

The prime minister’s latest statement follows Pakistan’s earlier decision in June 2025 to formally recommend Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. Islamabad had praised his involvement in diplomatic efforts that helped bring an end to the fighting between Pakistan and India.

Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to receive the award, pointing to his involvement in international conflicts and peace efforts. However, the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which independently evaluates nominations.
