Sheikh Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, Imam of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, has emphasised that the sanctity of Islam’s Two Holy Mosques must never be violated, describing their protection as a matter of utmost importance.
Delivering the Friday sermon at Masjid al-Haram, Al-Sudais condemned attacks attributed to the Yemeni group targeting Makkah, Madinah and civilian infrastructure. He said such actions hurt the sentiments of Muslims around the world and disregard the religious significance of Islam’s holiest sites.
The imam stressed the need to preserve the security of the two sacred cities and protect their special status in Islam. Makkah is home to the Kaaba at Masjid al-Haram, while Madinah houses Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. Both sites hold deep religious significance for Muslims worldwide.
His remarks also highlighted the importance of safeguarding civilian infrastructure and ensuring the safety of people. Any threat to the sacred cities raises serious concerns among Muslims because of their spiritual importance and central place in Islamic worship.
Al-Sudais’s message focused on the responsibility to respect the sanctity of the holy sites and maintain their security. His comments came amid concerns over attacks affecting the region and the potential risks to civilian areas.
The Two Holy Mosques welcome millions of worshippers and pilgrims each year, making their protection a major concern for Saudi Arabia and the wider Muslim community. Ensuring the safety of these sites remains essential for religious activities and the millions of people who visit them.
