US Suspends Employment-Based Residency Verification for Eight Tech Companies

The United States suspended the participation of eight major technology companies in a government verification process linked to employment-based permanent residency on October 8.

The companies include Indian firms Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Wipro and HCL, along with US-based Microsoft, Adobe, Cognizant and Capgemini.

According to the US Secretary of Labor, new applications from these companies will not be accepted, while applications already under review will also be put on hold.

US Vice President JD Vance accused the companies of replacing local workers with foreign employees and taking advantage of employment-related rules.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk reacted strongly on October 7 and 8 to delays in the launch of Starlink’s commercial services in India. He alleged that some influential business figures were creating obstacles to protect their control over the country’s telecommunications market.

Musk referred to Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani and questioned whether he was the person making the key decisions in India.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi responded to Musk’s question, saying that Musk still needed to learn about another person. However, Gandhi did not reveal the person’s name.

Musk thanked Gandhi for his response and described the situation as concerning.
