Heavy rain and snowfall have forced authorities to suspend traffic on Babusar Top Road in Mansehra district, as temperatures drop across the region. The road was closed at Gati Das on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, due to worsening weather conditions.
Shahrah-e-Mansehra was also temporarily shut to all traffic from Zero Point Gilgit, according to reports citing local authorities. The closures were introduced as a cold wave affected the area, making travel through the mountainous routes difficult.
The district administration confirmed that roads leading to Kaghan and Naran valleys remain open for traffic. It also said vehicles would be allowed to use the closed routes again once snowfall stops and conditions become suitable for travel.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department had forecast rain, strong winds and thunderstorms in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and other northern areas for Tuesday. Isolated hailstorms were also expected in some locations.
Babusar Top is a high mountain pass connecting the Kaghan Valley with the Chilas area of Gilgit-Baltistan. Its road is often affected by snow and severe weather, particularly towards the end of the year.
Travellers heading towards northern areas should check the latest road conditions with local authorities before starting their journeys.
