More than 50 passports carrying foreign visas have been stolen from a private courier company’s delivery bag in Rawalpindi, raising concerns for Pakistanis preparing to travel abroad for work.
The incident came to light on October 16, when a courier company representative reported the theft to Banni Police Station. According to the complaint, the delivery worker was carrying parcels along his usual route when the bag was stolen near Chandni Chowk, close to Asim Plaza. Police registered a case and launched an investigation.
The missing bag reportedly contained passports sent from Karachi to a travel agent. More than 50 of them carried visas for Saudi Arabia and other countries. The bag also held mobile phones, personal documents and other parcels belonging to different customers.
The affected citizens reportedly spent millions of rupees collectively on visas and overseas employment arrangements. The missing documents could delay their travel plans and put job opportunities at risk.
Reports also indicate that copies of the passports and an image of a suspected thief have surfaced. However, no confirmed information about arrests or recovery of the stolen items was available in the reports reviewed.
