LHC Rejects Petition Against Lahore’s 10-Day Basant Festival in 2027

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has dismissed a petition challenging the Punjab government’s proposed 10-day Basant festival in 2027.

The petition was filed by citizen Shahid Islam, who sought to challenge the planned celebrations. During the hearing, Justice Shehram Sarwar Chaudhry questioned the maintainability of the plea in the absence of an official government notification.

The judge advised the petitioner to obtain the formal notification before pursuing legal action against the proposed festival.

The proposed Basant celebrations are scheduled to take place from January 29 to February 7, 2027. However, the court’s decision does not amount to approval of the festival itself or a ruling on the legality of the government’s plan. The petition was withdrawn by the petitioner, leading to its dismissal.

The case therefore ended on procedural grounds, leaving the proposed celebrations and any related official decisions to be addressed through the relevant legal and administrative processes.
