Customs Seizes Rs.8 Million Worth of Smuggled Medicines at Karachi Airport

Pakistan Customs has seized more than 50,000 foreign medicine tablets worth over Rs. 8 million at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi. A female passenger arriving from Muscat was arrested after officials discovered the medicines in her luggage.

According to reports published on October 19, 2026, customs officials intercepted the passenger at the airport’s arrivals area following a tip-off. Assistant Collector Khizar Faiz said the team recovered 50,340 tablets valued at Rs. 8,054,400.

Officials stated that the medicines were being brought into Pakistan in commercial quantities without the required certification from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP). Under the applicable rules, the necessary approval is required to import such medicines legally.

The customs department confiscated the tablets and registered a case against the passenger under the Customs Act. Officials also reported that the woman had been named in other cases registered by customs authorities at different airports, although further details were not provided.

The seizure highlights the authorities’ efforts to prevent the illegal import of pharmaceutical products and enforce regulations governing medicines entering Pakistan.
