England captain Harry Brook made cricket history on Thursday, October 22, by scoring the fastest double century in One-Day International (ODI) cricket. He reached 200 runs in just 114 balls against Sri Lanka at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Pakistan.
Brook finished his innings with 202 runs from 116 deliveries, hitting 21 fours and 10 sixes. His outstanding performance helped England post a huge total of 429 runs for the loss of four wickets in their 50 overs.
With this achievement, Brook broke India’s Shubman Gill’s record of reaching an ODI double century in 117 balls. Gill had set the previous mark against the West Indies in September 2026. Brook also became the first English batter to score a double century in men’s ODI cricket.
Sri Lanka had won the toss and decided to field first, but England’s batters made the most of their opportunity. Joe Root contributed 69 runs, while Will Jacks added a quick 66 from just 24 balls to strengthen England’s total.
The match was part of the Pakistan-hosted ODI tri-series featuring England, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Brook’s innings marked a major milestone for English cricket and placed him at the top of the list for the fastest double centuries in ODI history.
